If you keep your boat in a wet slip with no lift; bottom paint is a necessity or your gel coat will blister. Gel coat is not designed to stay in the water long term.
Bottom Paint up to a certain size
What are the 2 types of bottom paint?
There are two main types of bottom paints, ablative and hard bottom. Ablative paints erode over time, so they are known as self-polishing, soft or eroding paint. Water flow will wear the paint away over time, causing the biocide to leach out.
Hard antifoulings work by releasing biocide from the surface of the coating to deter fouling organisms. Hard antifoulings don't really wear, but abrasive material in the water such as silt and sand may lead to a very minor reduction in the film build.

What is NanoXcel?
NanoXcel is the material the hulls and decks of Yamaha WaveRunners are made of. The main advantage of this material is its durability and low weight. It translates into great power-to-weight ratios.
When did Yamaha start using NanoXcel hulls?
Yamaha introduced the lightweight NanoXcel 1 hull material on certain models in 2008, and added an even lighter version called NanoXcel 2 on supercharged models in 2015.
Yamaha has now(2022) moved to SMC fiberglass hulls for FX models, which is a more traditional fiberglass. This does add a little more weight to the FX and FX SVHO.
SMC is thicker, rides better, easier and cheaper to repair, and you get more flexibility for colors.
Yamaha will keep NanoXcel for the deck, but the move to SMC for the hull.
The VX models, GP1800R HO and GP1800R SVHO, did not change hulls.
